Our environmental management policy

To ensure that we adhere to all environmental controls and legislation as may be applicable in our work processes
Identify and manage our environmental risks and opportunities.
Managing our energy consumption including gas, water, fuel and electricity promoting efficiency and reducing waste
Work with partners, suppliers and customers to minimise negative environmental impacts
Aim to consistently review and reduce our energy and resource use and consumption
To ensure that all waste is disposed of correctly in line with current legalisation and using approved disposal methods
Manage our waste sustainably reducing, reusing, recovering and recycling all waste products where possible to minimise the amount of waste sent to landfill for example in re-using cardboard and other materials in the packaging of orders
Shred all of our waste paper products and re-use these in warehouse packaging
Aim to continually improve our environmental management procedures


How we deliver this
We are registered with the Environment Agency North West as holding a ‘Certificate of Registration under the Control of pollution (Amendment) Act 1989’.
Through working with key partners including Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale, Oldham MBC and the Environment Agency to ensure that we comply with environmental management legislation.

Waste

All waste materials are removed on a weekly basis in a correct manner by an approved waste carrier
Participation in the Groundwork Oldham and Rochdale recycle and re-use scheme
We allow our trade customers collecting from our premises to leave packaging from that purchase behind so that it can be re-used
We re-use as many spare parts as possible to create new products and expand the life span of products

Energy use

All computers and associated equipment are turned off at night rather than being left on stand-by
Where possible, flat screen monitors are used thereby reducing energy consumption by over two thirds in comparison with standard screens
Print only documentation that is necessary and use duplex and economy printing where appropriate
Ensure that lights and equipment are turned off when not in use to reduce energy usage and waste
Ensure our buildings are maintained to a high standard and that all repairs are undertaken quickly to reduce heat loss etc.
Ensure that we only boil the amounts of water that are required
Ensure that good housekeeping standards are maintained for equipment to ensure efficient operation of equipment
Ensure adequate signage and instruction is provided to assist and educate our staff in reducing energy consumption

Products and services

We provide our customers with environmentally friendly product options where possible. For example, some of the extinguishers from our TOTAL range reduce negative impacts on the environment by reducing the amounts of by-products produced
When purchasing materials we endeavour to bulk buy in order to reduce energy consumption
All waste materials are stored in a secure manner whilst on site in an appropriate container
Educate, inform and train our staff in environmental matters and the relevant impacts of our activities on the environment
